# Challenge: December 2025
## "Bring Your Test Models"
This month's challenge is all about the models we use to test, tune, and calibrate our printers. Everyone has a favorite "go-to" print—whether it's a Benchy, a calibration cube, a torture test, or something unique you've found.
**Bring your favorite test models to the meetup!**
## Challenge Details
### The Goal
Share what test models you use and why. Do you use them for:
- Calibrating dimensional accuracy?
- Testing overhangs and bridging?
- Tuning retraction settings?
- Checking first layer adhesion?
- Just for fun?
### Submission Requirements
- **Physical Model**: Bring your printed test model(s) to the January meetup.
- **Explanation**: Be prepared to share *why* this is your favorite test model and what it helps you achieve.
### Voting & Awards
- **Group Vote**: The group will vote on what they think is the **Best Test Model**.
- **Criteria**: Usefulness, uniqueness, or just plain coolness!
## Timeline
- **Challenge Announcement**: December 10, 2025 (at December meetup)
- **Show & Tell / Voting**: January 2026 (during January meetup)

# Current Challenge: January 2026
## Maker Coin Holder Design
This month's challenge is to design a holder for our **Maker Coin**.
## Challenge Details
### The Goal
Design and print a custom holder, stand, or display for the 3D Fuel / Filament Fabricators Maker Coin.
### Getting the Coin
To participate, you need a Maker Coin to measure or test your design with.
- **Pick one up**: Stop by 3D Fuel to grab a physical coin.
- **Print one**: You can print your own coin!
- **Nozzle Requirement**: 0.2mm nozzle is required for the fine detail.
- **Model Link**: [Filament Fabricators Maker Coin on MakerWorld](https://makerworld.com/en/models/2115458-filament-fabricators-maker-coin#profileId-2289196)
### Submission Requirements
- **Physical Model**: Bring your printed holder to the February meetup.
- **Digital File**: (Optional but encouraged) Share your design on a repository like MakerWorld, Printables, or Thangs.
### Timeline
- **Challenge Announcement**: January 2026 (at January meetup)
- **Show & Tell / Voting**: February 2026 (during February meetup)
- **Winner Announcement**: February 2026 (end of February meetup)

# November 2025 Challenge
## "Wait, This Was Printed? How Are There No Layer Lines?"
Can you achieve the smoothest, most layer-line-free surface finish possible? This challenge pushes your printer tuning, slicer settings, and material knowledge to the limit. The goal is simple but difficult: create a 25mm cube with 2 walls and no top that looks so smooth, people question whether it was actually 3D printed!
## Challenge Details
### Materials & Constraints
- **Filament**: 3D Fuel filament (any type: PLA+, Pro PLA+, PCTG etc.)
- **Nozzle Requirement**: Must use a 0.4mm nozzle (REQUIRED)
- **Estimated Filament Usage**: Approximately 3 grams (for reference only)
- **Model Specification**:
- **Dimensions**: Exactly 25mm x 25mm x 25mm cube (REQUIRED)
- **Wall Count**: Exactly 2 walls (no more, no less) (REQUIRED)
- **Top Layers**: 0 (no top surface)
- **Bottom Layers**: Standard (as needed for proper adhesion)
- **Infill**: 0% (hollow interior)
- **Print Mode**: Standard FDM/FFF printing (no resin printing)
### Competition Categories
- **Smoothest Surface**: Best overall surface finish with minimal visible layer lines straight off the printer
- **No post-processing allowed** - cubes must be judged as-printed
### Judging Criteria
1. **Layer Line Visibility** (100%): The appearance and visibility of layer lines - less visible is better
- All cubes must meet basic challenge requirements (25mm cube dimensions, exactly 2 walls, 0.4mm nozzle, no post-processing)
- Winner is determined solely by smoothness of surface and minimal layer line appearance
### Submission Requirements
- **Physical Model**: Bring your printed 25mm cube to the December meetup for judging
- **Dimension Verification**: Must be exactly 25mm x 25mm x 25mm
- **Wall Count Verification**: Must show exactly 2 walls when inspected
- **Nozzle Verification**: Must be printed with 0.4mm nozzle
- **Settings Documentation**: Share your winning settings (layer height, temperature, speed, cooling, techniques)
- **Process Notes**: Brief description of your approach
## Timeline
- **Challenge Announcement**: November 12, 2025 (at November meetup)
- **Submission Deadline**: December 10, 2025 (at December meetup)
- **Judging Period**: December 10, 2025 (during December meetup)
- **Winner Announcement**: December 10, 2025 (end of December meetup)

## Amazon
[3D Print Removal Tools](https://amzn.to/3Ln2Akf)
These are some of the better tools for taking 3D Prints off the beds. The spatula is one of the best ones I have used. If I find them somewhere other than Amazon I will update, but this is an affiliate link for the scrapers.
[Filament Storage Boxes](https://amzn.to/4poin0c)
These are what I use for filament storage if you are looking for a good hard plastic box for storage. There are tons of options to make these full out dry boxes and hooking up to poly dries etc.
[Reusable Desiccant](https://amzn.to/4st52q2)
This is what I use for my reusable desiccant. There are many different options when printing. I like this as it goes to a purple color when it needs to be recharged and makes it really easy to know when to dry it. If you come to the meetup but don't know what you would do with the 2Lb jug or bigger let me know and we can figure out how to sell you a smaller amount.

## Challenge: Bring an Experiment

For this month, we challenge you to try something new, crazy, or wild! Bring in an experiment. It can be anything from simple cubes to complex prints. The goal is simply to push boundaries and try something you haven't done before.
### The Focus: The Process
We want to hear about what you tried. Be prepared to share:
* What was your experiment?
* Why did you try it?
* Did it work, or did it fail? (Failing is completely fine, it's about trying something new!)

* **Physical Model**: Bring your experimental print to the **April** meetup.
